It has become your calling card, but how did that very first trip to Lapland come about?
Shana: The idea for our group trips to Lapland actually came to me. In 2018, I first discovered Lapland during a study trip and immediately fell in love with the destination’s magic. When I returned, I was so enthusiastic that I wanted to share that love with others. At Reiswinkeltje, our goal is to make people happy, and a group trip to Lapland offers such a fulfilling and special experience that I was certain it would be a hit.
So it all started with you, Shana. But have you also fallen head over heels for Lapland, Pieterjan?
Pieterjan: Absolutely, I completely understand why Shana was so enthusiastic at the time. Lapland has something enchanting about it. The beautiful scenery and the diverse activities make it a fantastic experience every time. Because we’ve been there so many times now, it feels like coming home. We know the area, the guides, and the organization inside and out, which allows us to take care of everything for our clients. All they have to do is enjoy!
Can you briefly outline the program? What do you all do?
Shana: Upon arrival at Kuusamo Airport, we’ll first pick up our thermals. Then we’ll explore the area around our cozy lodge, nestled in nature overlooking a lake and with a personal chef. He’ll be ready to treat us to delicious Lappish dishes, right in our own chalet.
Pieterjan: And then the real adventure begins! Our days are packed with action, including snowmobile safaris, ice fishing, husky rides, and even a visit to a reindeer farm. And for those who want even more, there are optional excursions like ice karting and river floating. In short, there’s something for everyone!
What kind of audience comes to the group trip to Lapland?
Pieterjan: We’ve had all sorts of people on our group trips to Lapland, which makes it really fun. From couples of all ages to families with older children, groups of friends, and even siblings. It’s always a diverse group.
Shana: Indeed, the youngest participants were two 21-year-old girls who had really saved up for the trip, while the oldest was in her seventies. So it’s a very diverse group.
When you experience such an intense journey together, beautiful friendships are sure to develop.
Pieterjan: Absolutely. People are sometimes a bit hesitant at first, but a strong bond quickly develops.
Shana: Yes, exactly! There’s a real magic that happens between people. Some groups even have reunions, and there are participants who continue to vacation together after their trip. Isn’t that fantastic to see? It really gives us a warm feeling inside.
What makes Lapland so special and what are the advantages of your group trip?
Pieterjan: It’s actually the perfect mix of nature, unique activities and just plain fun that makes Lapland so special.
Shana: Yes, absolutely! Just take the departure from the husky tour. The sound of those barking dogs and then that magical moment when you set off and hear only the crunch of the snow. That’s truly amazing. And if you can spot the Northern Lights on top of that, it’s perfect.
Pieterjan: And what makes our group trip so special is that we absolutely adore Lapland. It’s truly become a second home for us, and our travelers feel it too. Every year, we look forward to taking them along and sharing our passion for this destination. We’ve already completed eight group trips, but each one is unique to us. It gives us immense satisfaction to take care of everyone’s needs and guide them through this unforgettable experience.
If you had to sum up Lapland in one word, what would it be?
Shana: Fantastic. Actually, all the positive words apply, because I really can’t think of anything negative.
Pieterjan: If I could put it in two words: a unique experience. But it’s hard to describe. Many put it on their bucket list, but you only truly realize how beautiful and enjoyable the experience is once you’ve experienced it yourself.
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about the group trip to Lapland?
Shana: A man told me I was the first person to make him forget about work for five days. That was really special to hear.
